Lockdown Listening

What we’ve been listening to during our time away from the office.

Last week, we asked you to send us the musical gems that have helped maintain your sanity during a rather bizarre first half of 2020. Thank you for everyone’s suggestions so far – we certainly have an extremely varied playlist in the pipeline for you! While we wait for the finished version to go live, here are the tunes that we have had on repeat in our own living rooms…

Nicholas – Artistic Director

I am a big film music fan… During lockdown I listened to some great soundtracks on repeat while sorting through my flat, including Pan’s Labyrinth, with its haunting magical beauty, and Cinema Paradiso, with its soaring romantic melodies. So saddened by the passing of Morricone, known as Maestro, but what a legacy!!!

Cinema Paradiso by Ennio Morricone

Ilona – Administrator

A lot of my listening has actually just been listening to BBC6 Music or food podcasts! But for regular tuneage I’ve been listening to Jordan Rakei’s album Origin and Rosie Lowe’s album YU a lot. Really nice chill albums to have on whilst working, not too distracting! We’ve also played LCD Soundsystem’s All My Friends a lot, and Chemical Brothers stuff, reminding us of what we should have been doing this summer, which was dancing around in a field with all of our mates at Glasto!

Ferg – Orchestra Manager

The 1983 album Jarreau by Al Jarreau – I had heard a few tracks on the radio etc without realising who had made them, but the lead trumpeter in my band brought the album’s 2nd song Boogie Down to my attention when it came on in our cruise ship’s nightclub. I’ve listened to the whole album a lot during lockdown, it’s incredible. It really grooves, is harmonically interesting, and it naturally instils a good mood in any listener!

Nathan – Marketing & Research Manager

My listening habits have mainly reflected my mood! In more relaxed moments I’ve been on a bit of a Bon Iver binge, especially the second album, but during daily power walks around Finsbury Park (the closest I get to running) I’ve drifted to Carrie by Fakear and the new Disclosure tune Energy – absolute banger!

Lucy – Creative Producer

My first would be Bitter by Palace, as it reminds me of holidays to my mum’s house in France and the smells of cooking and wine!! Also the album Breakfast In America by Supertramp (pictured) – it’s just great. A current guilty pleasure is Love Regenerator – Hypnagogic.

Yet again you guys nailed it. You demystify classical music for the common man. That is an art in itself.
